Our (unofficial) motto for life on a tall ship is 'go-with-the-flow'.
On board, there are no rigid schedules, so you won't be overwhelmed by the sense that there's not enough time. As our friendly and professional crew take care of everything, your only job is to relax and soak in impressive views of the Med, watch the sun sink into the deep blue water and get to know your fellow travellers.
Can't sit still? No problem - there's plenty to do onboard. You should definitely start by exploring this impressive ship. The closer you look, the more you'll see. Learn more about these impressive vessels and spot pictures and nautical equipment - the ship is a treasure trove of fascinating maritime memorabilia.
The sailing experience
Square-rigged ships have come a long way since the single-masted rigs used by the ancient Egyptians, the Phoenicians, the Greeks, the Romans, and the Celts. (In fact, our five-masted, Royal Clipper holds the record for the largest square-rigged ship still in service.) But while sailing on our tall ships, you're sailing on a piece of history - a ship whose design has slowly evolved over thousands of years. Although these ships are home to state-of-the-art control and navigation technology, they're also an authentic recreation of the classic clipper ships that were popular in the 19th century. As soon as you step on board you will feel the nostalgia and heritage of being on a traditional, rigged sailing ship reminiscent of luxury from a bygone era.
While on board, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy a few authentic nautical experiences, you can't enjoy on any of our other ships:
Climb the crow's nest
If you're feeling adventurous, you can experience a view like no other by climbing the mast to the crow's nest. Even though you'll be securely harnessed and closely supervised by our crew, at a whopping 65-75 feet tall (depending on the ship) it's still an exhilarating way to get your adrenaline pumping! And once you're there look out to sea and soak up your breathtaking surroundings without anyone or anything being able to block your view. You'll want to bring your camera along so you can capture the moment!
Raise the sails
Nothing compares to seeing the sails unfurl and catch the wind. And while onboard the crew go out of their way to ensure it's a memorable moment for every guest, including the chance to get involved. If you're able and willing, you can join the crew and an assortment of other guests in pulling the thick rope that releases the sail in an excitingly ceremonial moment.
At night, the mast and sails are lit up with festoon lights which make it look all the more majestic and magical against the clear skies and dark waters of the Mediterranean. If the opportunity presents itself, you may watch them unfurl in the evening with a glass of champagne - an atmospheric end to the day's adventure.
Relax over the open water
If you're looking for something a little less active (but equally thrilling, in our opinion), head to the ship's bow. Netting hangs from either side of the bowsprit - the 30-foot spar that extends from the ship's prow (the most forward part of the bow that hangs above the waterline) - creating the perfect hammock with a unique view of the ship and the surrounding sea. Our guests love hanging out there - it's arguably the best seat on the ship.
Facilities
The Piano and Tropical bars
You'll find the Piano and Tropical bars, which are the social hubs of the ship. These welcoming bars offer a full range of drinks sourced from all over the world, including the finest wines and spirits.
In the Piano Bar is a range of comfortable seating to relax on - it's the perfect place to rest after a morning of exploring. Here, new-found friends gather to discuss the highlights of the day or listen to the relaxing piano music wafting through the air from our onboard musician.
Want to enjoy the beautiful weather, fresh sea air and incredible views? Our Tropical outdoor bar is the place to be.
Don't forget about the amazing bartenders and their fantastic enthusiasm and skill! You should definitely treat yourself to an extravagant cocktail or maybe explore the classic wine list, offering a selection of traditional and local wines.
Library
We're pretty sure we're not the only ones who think holidays and reading go hand-in-hand. Whether you finished your current book and are looking for something new or forgot to bring one, there's a little something for everyone in the Edwardian-style library. With a grand Belle Époque fireplace and lots of chairs and sofas, the library is a quiet retreat in which to dive into something new.
If you're interested in maritime history, you'll find a cornucopia of maps, nautical information, and information about the ship and the Clipper company to peruse at your leisure.
Outdoor pools
There are two saltwater pools on the Star Clipper and Flyer on the Sun deck. While they're not big enough to swim laps in, they do feature inbuilt seating - they're the perfect place to cool down while still admiring the views.
If you're not interested in a dip, you can still sit and relax on the surrounding loungers - maybe sip a cocktail from the outdoor bar and catch up on that book you've been meaning to finish.
Royal Clipper, the larger of the three tall ships, has three pools. The main pool is inset into the Piano Bar Lounge ceiling. Its uniquely designed glass bottom and side porthole design filters light down through a three-level atrium to the dining room below.
The Sloop Shop
If you love your time on board (and we can almost guarantee you will), you may want to commemorate your time away with a souvenir. From stylish clothing to accessories, you'll find a range of items available.
