Tours to Belgium

Explore

It has been said that ‘It’s easy to love a country known for chocolate and beer’ but although Belgium undoubtedly produces some of the finest chocolates and best beers in the world, we think there is so much more to discover and a Riviera Travel tour to Belgium is a great way to experience all that this beautiful country has to offer - including the beer and chocolate of course!

History

History abounds throughout this small country, with Celts, Romans and Vikings leaving their mark before the Spanish Habsburgs added it to their vast empire in the 1500s Charles V becoming the most powerful European emperor since Ancient Rome. In more modern times Belgium was partially occupied during World War I, and the area around Ypres is a moving place to explore its legacy in Flanders. Ypres itself was entirely rebuilt, and wandering around this thriving Belgian town today, you wouldn’t know that the buildings aren’t centuries old.

Art & Architecture

Prosperous since the middle ages, many fine buildings were built and you can experience some of the best preserved of these on our tour to Bruges by Eurostar. Bruges has justifiably earned its UNESCO World Heritage site status, with its network of picturesque canals, medieval market squares, fine gothic churches and its famous Belfry.

For the art lovers amongst you Bruges will not disappoint as it has a wonderful collection of museums and galleries to explore, including the renowned Groeningemuseum with its astonishing collection of celebrated masterpieces.

Convenience

As Belgium is one of our near neighbours, travelling there by train from the UK couldn’t be simpler and it makes Bruges an ideal destination for a short break. Once in Bruges everything is very close by and easily reached on foot. Our hotels are all within the historic centre and it’s easy to wander out to explore the medieval centre and discover the cosy and intimate restaurants frequented by the locals.

Food & Drink

Belgium is famous for its artisan chocolate, smooth crafted beers, and classic chips with mayonnaise – but there is far more to savour beyond that. It has an excellent reputation for its cuisine, which rivals France and many restaurants serve regional dishes such as Flemish Carbonnade or Sole Meunière amongst others, and pride themselves on the standard of their food and quality of the locally sourced and seasonal ingredients.
