Why Take a Spring River Cruise with Us?
From the colourful bulbfields of Amsterdam to the tranquillity of Monet’s Garde, there’s lots to choose from when it comes to river cruises next spring.
Here are a few of our favourites and reasons why the spring is the perfect season to discover Europe. From the mesmerising kaleidoscope of colours at Keukenhof Tulip Gardens to the hand-painted chocolate eggs from historic Bruges, find a river cruise to look forward to.
Cruise the Dutch Waterways in spring
With striking scarlets, candy floss pinks and vivid violets, be inspired by the beautiful blooms spreading from local flower markets to the famous Keukenhof gardens. Plus what better place to enjoy the Easter season than Bruges, where they’ll be chocolate aplenty to indulge in or take home as a gift. We are also pleased to announce that we are including a visit to the Floriade Expo for our 2022 Amsterdam, Cologne and the Best of Holland & Flanders itinerary, instead of the Amsterdam canal cruise. This superb exhibition only takes place once every 10 years and is described as “the greenest day out” and truly a feast for the senses.
Discover the Danube in spring
The Danube makes for a wonderful year-round destination, but is particularly popular in spring for its milder temperatures and the beginnings of spring blooms. From majestic Vienna, Salzburg and Budapest to the gardens of Hellbrunn Palace and the Mirabell Palace, horticulture and architecture fans alike will love seeing the stunning Baroque buildings and spring flowers in all their splendour. It’s also a quieter season, so what better reason to beat the crowds and enjoy the Danube in April.
Spring cruises on the Rhine & Moselle
With colourful tulips dotted along many of the Rhine riverbanks, lush green vineyards of the Moselle in the distance and temperature highs of around 17 °C, the Rhine and Moselle rivers make for a marvellous spring getaway. Coincide a cruise with Easter, and you’ll also notice the charming German villages and towns are decorated with pretty hand-painted eggs.
Reasons to cruise the Seine in springtime
Although Paris is perfect all year round, the city’s gardens and riverbanks are particularly stunning in the spring months. It seems Claude Monet would agree, having encapsulated this inspiring river in his 1878 piece, Spring by the Seine. We visit Paris on our Seine river cruise, offering plenty of time to embrace your inner Parisian with a stroll nearby the river or one of the capital’s many parks. Or on day 6, explore Monet’s Garden in Giverny, where even in early April, you might see a display of tulips, narcissus, daffodils, and pansies.
Plan a cruise to Provence
From Arles to Avignon and Burgundy to Beaune, Provence makes for a wonderfully picturesque French cruise, where foodies, creatives and history lovers alike will find inspiration at each destination. With the average highs in the south of France reaching 17 °C and less crowds than summer, April and May sailings mean you can enjoy each daily excursion with mild weather and plenty of space to take it all in.
All that’s left to choose which spring river cruise to take you on…
