Meet Karen Holladay, one of our Tour Managers

Meet Karen Holladay, Tour Manager for our Costa Rica, South Africa and Victoria Falls, Botswana Safari and Cape Town tours

Why do guests love our long-haul Riviera tours? What do they love the most?

That we get the perfect mix of of including all the essential sights and free time for independent exploring.
And that they are expertly guided and advised by our wonderful local guides and experienced TMs in places new to them which they would find harder to explore on their own.

How do Riviera make these tours so special for guests?

We take all the effort out of travelling to exotic destinations so that all they have to do is sit back and enjoy, confident that they won’t miss any of the “must-sees” and that they will often visit places they wouldn’t have found on their own.

What’s your favourite excursion and why?

In South Africa: As an animal lover, seeing Africa’s magnificent animals in their natural habitat on our included safari in the incredible Kruger National Park is always awe-inspiring.

In Botswana: Our included boat cruise on the Chobe River is one of the best wildlife cruises I’ve experienced anywhere in the world - every second another mammal, bird, crocodile or lizard appears!

In Costa Rica: Not just one excursion but the whole magical experience of staying in our eco-lodge in Tortuguero, looking for wildlife and brightly-colored plants in the tropical forest and wetlands and waking up to the sound of monkeys howling in the jungle.

Favourite place to visit?

Where I work: South Africa; Victoria Falls, Botswana and Cape Town (the most beautiful city in Africa!) and Costa Rica.

Favourite memory on a Riviera tour?

There are too many to count, but some examples are:

  • Dining out under the stars in the African bush on our optional sunset safari in the Kruger National Park.
  • Seeing a completely circular rainbow over the majestic Victoria Falls - the only place I have ever seen these.
  • Spotting sloths and tiny frogs on our night walk in Costa Rica.
